With regard to the question in post # 30, that it seems no 12 lead generators are of the magneciter design, I think that maybe true.

I can only speculate but since the magneciter does not contain an electronic voltage regulator there is very limited output voltage monitoring capability. That is it seems that all magneciter designs involve stators with either two or three stator windings ( exclusive, in some cases, of the battery charging winding) and the magneciter must monitor generator output voltage with reference to ground, i.e., T2 WRT single phase or T0 WRT three phase outputs.

In the 12 output lead design it appears the stators have six windings, i.e., 12 leads that are monitored by an electronic voltage regulation computer which can be strapped for a multitude of generator output voltages.

I will stick with my magneciter any day. BTW, the magneciter design can be and is scaled up as you know in bigger machines.

Seems can use a transformer with a magnaciter to monitor across 2 windings ( ei ~ 208-240) have it output 120 V to magnaciter input leads, then ground one lead out secondary to allow flashing current to flow.

Len k sure there are lots of different ways things could be done but show me an Onan production run where that was done. I don't think so.

So today I had a chance to get the JC into the shop. It sat on the trailer for the last 4 weeks out back. Of course as we all know a onan sitting outside is a open invitation to mice to take up residence, and they did. I took all the sheet metal off, found a mouse condo with 7 little bastards inside. A long shot of brake clean sent them to there maker. 1 escaped into the shop but with my trusty irish terrier chased it down.
So back to the JC. I put a bottle on it and got it started up. It needs the switch to be in the hand crank position not the electric start position for it to run. The gauges are in bad shape faces broken, covers missing needles broken. The 3 phase selector switch is broken and knob missing. It has a tach but it does not work. I did find one of the wires to the tach was loose and it was making the engine stall , once tightened it was fine. The head puts out power in all three legs so that's a plus.

Hand crank bypasses the ignition start relay. That is of open construction. Probably dirty contacts try spraying it with contact cleaner and it.might just work
Do.not forget to.return hand crank to ellectric start.position.after stopping the plant othwise you willdrain.thebattery.

Thanks leon, I'll go after that , I need to figure out why there are extra 2 wires running to the starter. Could be a bypass of the switch.

So the switch that is broken a phase selector switch the part number is 308a12 seems like unobtainum.

So I have decided to get rid of the JC. It's not what I want so instead of tossing money into it I will let it go. Runs fine puts out power.

I disconnected the gauge package from the generator, with the broken switch that checks each phase flopping around in the control box the risk of shorting was just to great. So I removed all wiring related and the switch. I took the generator leads off each gauge and bolted them together, wrapped them with heavy rubber and zip tied them with just a couple of wraps of tape over each. Plus the gauge package does not work anyway.

I have had so many tire kickers emailing on the machine it's crazy, now I have a guy with a HolGar who wants it for parts to change the HolGar over to electric start and propane.Shame but it needs to move.Maybe.

You know, it's too bad that truck shipping is so much trouble....

There is a major truck line here in my town with a big dock where a person can ship or pick up a load.

I don't know what it takes to get them to take a pallet from an individual as opposed to one from a business... or if you'd pay an exorbitant price compared to a "frequent shipper" type of business.

Plus, it's too much to expect a seller to be able to even crate up an item so it doesn't get lost in transit because the pallet fell apart or something like that....

Shipping is a killer on large heavy items, I have it on a 4x4 skid ,bolted down on homemade orange rubber mounts.

Hay, if someone wants it bad enough, let that be the buyers responsibility. Trouble is, finding a buyer who knows what questions to ask and one who is knowledgeable of these old machines. Most likely such a person.is elderly unless of course they are a younger whipper snapper who.is familiar with this web site.

That switch I may have. My JB had a meter package almost identical to yours. I enhanced my meter setup and eliminated the switch and it did work.. I don't remember if I threw it away or tossed it into my box of spare parts about a year ago.

Thanks JohnnyC

It may sell now so thanks I will not need it.

If I kept the machine I would swap a 12k end on it , but I would need everything off the donor machine so unless I got one for dirt cheap it's not worth it for me.

Here are pictures of my meter panel and the switch behind it. I'm not sure if you want it if I can find it or if you just want to offload the JC and not worry about it. Let me know and I'll try finding it this weekend.

Thanks again for the switch offer, don't bother to look just yet, it may go but if it doesn't I will keep it in mind.
