I also, have another question i would like to ask if someone knows. I have an Onan model # 5BGEFA26100M genset with a bad stator, i also have an Onan model # 6.5NHEFA2600E with a possible bad rotor that i am going to check when i get time. My question is can i use the BGE rotor in the NHE model with the bad rotor? The part manuals for each model show the same part number for each rotor.

I've never done it, but if part numbers match they should swap. But some part numbers have a dash number after them , if it does I'ld make sure that matches too. Not sure what Onan is using dash number for but when I approved drawings at another company we sometimes used dash number to ID a similar but different sized part.

I have a 7NHM spec H. I looked at my notes. In past when I looked at BGM/NHM parts manual they said all specs of both BGM/NHM used stator part number 220-4135-04

------------------

I just looked NHE parts manual 940-028B pfd page 76 says stator part number is 220-4135-S4

Numbers don't fully match. I'ld wait for more info from hands on guys here. It might be a typo but to me S4 instead of 04 is a red flag without asking someone with more experience. If you had 2 stators in your hands I'ld compare all dimensions with a dial caliper to check they match. I suspect they are all electrically the same, but don't know that. Could check service manuals for ohm readings.

I think some one with a BGM tried to swap A or B spec rotor with newer spec one I think and something about ring gear?? being 2 inches off. But those rotors had different numbers ( 201-3388-03 VS 201-3509-01)

Will do, the NHE model has low voltage @ 54v. I picked the unit up a few days ago and havent had a lot of time to troubleshoot it yet. Brush resistance was at 28 ohms, i have read where dirty slip rings causing high resistance can cause the rotor to overheat and open up windings in rotor. What should rotor resistance be for 220-4135-04 rotor? Much thanks to all answers!

Have not heard dirty slip rings kills windings, doesn't sound reasonable. However it frequently stress and kill electronic AC voltage reg VR1. Usually hear about this on gens that sit a long time and then run without cleaning slip rings before making AC (hear it frequently @ 3years) . My testing showed 100 ohm after 3 months of sitting. Onan says clean slip rings if ohms thru brushes is > 30 ohms, use schotch brite pad. Onan says run at least every 30 days.

A shorted bat charging diode bridge can overheat and short B windings in stator. Think heat eventually burns other windings, so Ild fuse B windings. At least 2 stakers had that happen.

Pretty sure on all these single phase NHD/NHE/NHM gens (and their lower kw baby brothers) rotor is 20.25-24.75 ohms if they have electronic voltage reg . Specs are in service manual section 8? (generator). Unplug electronic reg and measure ohms across slip rings and across brushes, engine off.

Thanks, yes my BGE burnt stator windings because of a shorted bridge in the charging circuit. Mine was so bad that it burnt all insulation off of the ac side of wires from rectifier going into the control board, genset was in my motorhome coming back from Disney, im very lucky i didnt have a fire, those needed to be fused. This is why im trying to put together the NHE. By the way Happy New Year!

Update on the 6.5 NHE, had some time and cleaned slip rings and went hrough all of electrical connections making sure i had good continuity, my findings were really dirty slip rings and some moisture inside VR1 connector. VR1 connector had grease on it but still had moisture in it. Cranked genset and checked voltage and frequency, @125 v and 63 Hz unloaded, next i will put circuits to load it and see where we are. The control board in this one is onan 300-3763-01 and on J1 connector it has a wire that isnt connected (CR6 J1-10). Is this possibly for an option that this unit doesnt have? If so, does anyone know what for? I do know that the remote panel was standard wiring. Would this wire be for the deluxe panel but just wasn't used or needed for its application?
