Default MEP 003A no power engine starts and runs good.

I was given a MEP 003A 10kw generator, was told it was in good working order. The motor started right up. BUT I get no voltage out of any of the leads.
Any clues to where I can start to check it out any reset button I missed thanks for the help

It could be one or more of many things. Do you have copies of the manuals yet? There is a good troubleshooting section in TM5-6115-585-34.pdf that should help you narrow down the problem.

As Jim stated, the manuals are useful. They can be downloaded fro free at www.liberatedmanuals.com.

Are your AC & DC circuit breakers on? A few more steps on these than most consumer models, it is worth going over the operator's manual on these too.

TM-5-6115-585-12 is operators manual.

Are you holding the start switch clear to the right when starting the set,and then leaving it there and see if you build up voltage.
These sets need to be flashed on start as there is enough residual magnetism to excite the fields.
Also DO NOT CHANGE THE VOLTAGE SELECTOR WHEN SET IS RUNNING.

I will need to get a couple of batteries to start it, it has been a while, and I downloaded the manual. I will try what you say. I believe it is something simple because it was suppose to be in good working order when it was given to me.

Have to say it did not start this time, maybe not good enough batteries get a click, do not see the plunger on the end of the solenoid moving, drawing 45 amps when putting in start mode. Terminal on the housing seems loose as well as the one on the starter solenoid. Might have to pull the starter and check that next. That the news for the present time

Make certain (check manual) that your batteries are connected correctly. If you just added batteries and are unfamiliar with the generator, it is easy to hook up to incorrect terminals and unit will not start but click only.

I finally broke out the manual and I first hooked them up wrong, I now clearly marked the polarity. How hard is it to pull the starter?? terminals are loose and I would like to bench test it.

No harder than an old truck, and you don't even have to crawl under it.

Another thing to remember is never disconnect batteries when unit is running, you can damage the charging system.
