Default MEP 002A weak circuit breaker?

Having a problem with my MEP 002, when I turn on my 15amp grinder the voltage spike immediately throws the main breaker with no other load present. Could the 30 yr. old breaker just be "tired"? Thanks/ Ed

Are you sure you described the problem correctly? Assuming you plugged your 15A grinder into the "convenience outlet", I do not think the main circuit breaker is in the circuit. As I remember the "convenience outlet" has a separate circuit breaker.

Any way your 15A grinder probably draws 2/3 times that amperage on start up. That may be the reason your breaker is tripping.

I have a 30year old Skill all metal 9 inch grinder which the data plate states 15A. My 002A will start and run it all day without any problems.
