electrolysis in the tank like that I think would be tough to set up, citric acid or molasses might be the way to go with that.

Just a little update: I used electrolysis in the fuel tank base and it worked pretty good, got the tank looking nice and clean. I have not goa a lot else done because of school (Jr. Mechanical engineering student) but plan on continuing work after this week for Christmas break. Also I got a lister injector and injector pump to modify to fit. The injector should be no problem but the pump will be fun because of the close proximity to the pushrods.

I forgot to add..the main bearings and races have been replaced, it went pretty smoothly. The crankshaft, fuel pump, and side cover are also installed and valves and seats ground and lapped in..

I am getting close to getting the engine running but i have a quick question. This is the earlier style engine with the plunger type fuel pump, does that fuel pump need packing? I cant remember if i put any on it and i dont want to pull the side cover if i dont need to. Thanks for the help,
Dustin

I'm not familiar with that style pump, my engines are newer..
However the manual I have that covers the older engine and includes parts diagram and detailed parts list does not mention or list any sort of packing for the fuel pump.

Thanks, i figured i would have put some on if i saw a spot for it but just could not remember putting any packing on it. Here is an updated picture of the progress. Put a modern fuel filter on it, the old brass plate style was rusted up anyways.

You may have better luck starting a new discussion thread about your project and your parts needed. I'd like to hear more about it if you do.
Also a wanted ad in the classifieds forum.

Well I finally got my bracket made to hold the injector pump. The high pressure lign should be in next week and hopefully it will be running!

It runs! I got the engine running after lots of hard work getting all of the parts modified and getting all of the fuel lines bled off. Quick question. Is there supposed to be a nut on the small adjustment bolt on the governor that is behind the large access nut on the side cover? Mine does not have one and I noticed It turned easily.
Here is a link to the 3rd time running.

Governor adjustment under large hex head plug did not have a lock nut on my MD. The arm or boss it screws into is slotted and I assume then squeezed shut.
Mine was loose at first but snug when screwed in some. If it were loose I'd remove the bolt and pinch the slot closed a little more.
