Default McCormick Deering 10-20 problem

I have a 1925 McCormick Deering 10-20. We have had it running for alittle over a year now. When we put it up for winter, we encountered a problem. I found that when I was steering the tractor it would make a grinding noise in the transmisson. I also found that if the steering wheel was in the position where the grinding noise is made with the clutch disengaged as soon as i went to engage the clutch the clutch would engage but the tractor would not move and the tractor would stall out if i didn't disengage the clutch. Has anyone had this problem or know what the problem might be?

Hi I would pull the top cover off and see what's going on in there. I have never had any problems with my 10-20's like that.

A couple questions:
Does the trans. growl when going straight ahead?
Did you get the tractor to move again once the trans. locked up?

We are waiting till the spring when it warms up before we take the transmission cover off. I just thought that i would see if anyone has had this problem before, so I can know what to expect when we do take it apart. It has been a few months since I last ran it, but I believe the tranny did make a slight growling noise while driving straight. But the tractor did move again after it locked up. All I had to do was turn the steering wheel.

That's a new one on me...never heard of those particular problems related to steering before. Post what you find when you get it apart.
