Default Hart Parr 18-36 front axle

Well I finally got my 18-36 home yesterday. It has a Case 18-32 front axle on it. The original axle, spindles and wheels are all there but the center piece that bolts the axle to the front pivot is missing. The front axle "beam" parts have been bolted together to make some sort of drawbar!, but they seem to be intact and not otherwise modified. I can't seem to find a good pic of the missing part in my library and the image in the parts manual isn't much more than a shadow. Anyone have one of these laying around??

I took some pics tonight and I'll see if I can post some of them. The tractor presently has the Case front axle on it. The original front axle parts are still bolted together as a sort of drawbar. I'm going to try to get it apart tomorrow and see what all is there. I know the king pins are missing too.

The tractor is otherwise very complete and in good shape. The engine was running a few years ago and is complete with all lubricator parts intact and all lines still connected. Glass is very good with no chips or cracks. Original mag is there with plug leads connected. I have to check the mag for spark.

It came with a spare engine block as the original has a crack on the corner by the left cylinder. It has a very old repair consisting of a U bolt type of rod around the block casting. seems to have worked for many years. Do I change blocks and lose that part of it's history??

Sounds to me like the whole tractor is a good example of old-fashioned make-do engineering?

I would replace the cylinder if it was mine.

I have an extra front axle around here, with spindles and drag link. It might be a bit crusty compaired to your iron up there.

I located a frame and front axle and possibly a spare radiator about 100 miles away. I will go Thursday to pick it up. Already have a good extra radiator but if one comes with it I might as well bring it home.
Is there a serial number stamped anywhere on the frame itself?? I know about the one on the serial number tag.

Phil

The only serial number is the one on the tag.

Well, I made a trip for nothing yesterday. When we dug the HP frame out of the weeds it had no axle on it at all. Also the frame was broken and the rad was in pretty poor shape, so I left the lot.
Still looking for the front axle pivot block, part #9744.

I think I would leave the tractor the way it is, but that is just me. Makes the tractor have more history to it.
