Lightbulb Wincharger 6volt for 12volt lights?

I have acquired an original Wincharger Zenith 6v generator for the garden that I'd like to use to power a set of garden lights.

Now the lights I've built myself... they are illuminated by 10-30 VDC LED tower bulbs (automotive type).

Now, i'd like to have the lights illuminated whether the turbine is turning or not, so that means a set of batteries to power directly and to use the turbine for charging.

Can anyone recommend a system set-up? I realise that since the generator provides less voltage than the required 12 volts for the bulbs, I may need to step-up using a transformer and perhaps switch between two individual batteries (charge/supply).

Any thoughts on protection? Recommended switching/control?

Thanks,
Jock

You may find this link informative and useful

If it is a standard automotive type dynamo then there are lots of sites detailing 12 Volt conversions. Is the generator a two or three brush unit?

This site may have manuals
