Default DORMAN 4lb almost mint

I am needing information on the wiring and oil flow in a 4lb 1956 dorman, seems to be a dry sump and the oil tank has 2 compartments , looks like hydraulic -5 gallon side tank on a 20 gallon engine oil tank, there doesn't seem to be a scavenger pump( or it's missing ) one hose into oil pan one hose into a cylinoid type shutoff valve or? and one into the top of the casing that has a 4 wire syncro gov. or? .. this 1956 diesel is 1 year older than me, and I cannot figure the old time systems the motor is mint , and redone but the person who knew this motor is passed on, and I need to find some illustrated operating manual, I have the rebuild manual but it shows nothing of the wiring and oil systems used on this beauty. I might have to look to trade for a ready to go diesel gen, really do not have the time to play with this at this time of the year on the farm I have a couple 1cyl listers lr1 and sr1 but this is waaay more than a lister. rick

Unhappy Re: DORMAN 4lb almost mint

need operating/ connections manual (to help connect 4wire syncro mtr,& safety shutoff solenoids correctly) for a 1957 4lb dorman se#67952 ,connected to a 34.5 kw Kato a.c. gen. Also how an external oil tank connects ( 20 gal motor oil and a 5 gal tank on the side of the oil tank with 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid) the motor has 3 one inch hoses for the oil.I also am looking for a manual for a lister sr1/ 2500 watt and lr1/3500watt plus a 271 Detroit diesel/ kato 22kw. these have been my power on the farm since 1993 all are ailing except for my newest hope for long term power the dorman. the sr1 has a new sleeve and piston but the jug needs repatterning as the rings did not seat correctly and does not have the 4.25 hp it needs. I mistakenly used synthetic oil after rejugging and screwed up the ring seating. I could sure use some expertise to bring these tired motors back to life correctly this time. thank you kindly to anyone with time to direct me correctly. ( hey i'm a poet , and don't know it) but my feet show it , they're longfellows… rick off grid since 1993

No, but you may have to have a few more posts on the board, and must use the proper method to post pictures. Looks like you are trying to link directly to your E drive, that won't do it.

Have looked through a pile of old Dorman manuals and parts books. Could not find a dry sump engine. External oil filters and oil coolers yes. How deep is the sump on this engine? The attached wiring diagrams may not be correct for your engine but could be a guide.

some of the systems are similar thanks. these pics are good back up to check what I am figuring out. the sump is a regular 4lb pan but has a 4 " spacer between it and the block with 2 1" lines going into one is the out to the 40 gal oil tank. I poured a couple gallonsinto the pan and spun it up with no compression for a while and the oil I put into the pan was pumped back into the tank. I know this becaust I drained the pan afterward and got only a quart out, the rest was gone.? I think I'm going to have to get this thing in the air and remove the pan and spacer, to see whats up in there.
