Default Alternator for Low Wind Speed Wind Turbine.

Hi,

Anyone know is there any alternator for low wind speed wind turbine?

My wind speed is around 2m/s to 4.4 m/s, and the alternator have to generate 50W.

It can be aided with gear ratio.

anyone have any idea?

I have seen a number of designs that used a homemade alternator using an automotive hub with disk brake rotor. The rotor had a circle of super magnets (easily obtained) glued to the rotor. A number of coils were wound, using 16 ga. wire, around plastic bobbin. Some used a soft iron core, some did not. Very slow speed and high current at 12/24 volts.

If you use an automotive alternator I would suggest a power belt or fiber/plastic gears for silent service.

Another suggestion might be the DC motors used in tape transports and even treadmills. Many are good for up to 90 volts and 10 amps or better. Food for thought Don Smith

I've seen plans using Fischer Paykel DC washing machine motors.
They use DC motors and change direction to agitate with no transmission.
