Default Annual Fall Engine Show

As we are well into the long winter, I feel that it would help to re-live some warmer moments from a wonderful time we had this last October at our annual flywheel get-together. We had some really nice iron find its way here and unfortunately, it all left again at the end of the day

It is always a fun day of enjoying great food and fellowship.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the pics Travis. Looks like some really nice engines and one real dog showed up. What is the fourth engine in the second post? That thing really caught my eye! Some variant of a New Way maybe?

Ray,

The dog and the engine belong to the same enthusiast. The engine is a New Way but missing the tin shroud. It runs really great and is very heavy. It is a 6 hp Jewel and is on the original trucks. Ran great all day.

Thanks,

Thanks Travis. I don't know why but that New Way really interests me. I am pretty sure I have never seen one like it. I will have to get up that way sometime to see it run. Is it a regular at shows up in your area? Heck I would even like to say hi to that dog too!

Ray,

Here are a couple more shots of the Jewel owned by Bill M. They are from a different day, but show the engine from a few different angles. It has been to several shows this season but may have to move further back into the pile while others make it into the light for a while. Bill has plenty to draw upon and likes to mix it up each year. There are plenty of neat things to see if you are ever in this area. Let me know if you are ever travelling through......

Thanks,

What is the last engine in the first post. Im sure I should know but we don't get anything like that round these parts and I clearly need to read the BYB a bit more before bed times

That is a very nice original Messinger engine owned by a friend in the Kalona, IA area. It also made its way to Old Threshers show at Mt. Pleasant, IA over the last Labor Day weekend. They made hopper cooled and air cooled versions of their engines. One interesting feature of these engines is how the cylinder oiler works on the hopper cooled versions. The oil is held in a chamber and drips through a unique passageway that could also collect dust and dirt depending on the conditions where the engine is run. I suppose that this could certainly contribute to these engines wearing at a faster rate than "normal". This one is in fantastic original condition.

Thanks Travis, it looks real neat, I bet its expensive. You don't see so many small engines of that design with a valve chamber on the front with an igniter. It certainly is in great condition as well. I would guess its around 1912 area, would I be right? It reminds me of that gearless Deyo which was on enginads a while back although really its quite different.
