Photo Witte 98RC - Needing Parts

Hi All, My name is Clint Coffey from Indiana. I recently purchased a Witte 98RC, not running of course. It is missing some parts. I know the engine isn't that old so I'm hoping someone can tell me a good place to get cheap parts. Ha Ha. I'm learning that cheap and old engines don't mix. I'm mainly looking for an original style gas tank and air breather assy. I found a parts breakdown online and I think I have everything else. Although I haven't got inside the engine yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Jimmy Bell had some parts for those -- he's an advertiser here.

What does a 98RC weigh?

Arrow Engine was National Oilwell, which previously owned Witte. They have the parts line. I got all my new parts from them. Doug Waggonner and D Johnson are both well versed in Witte. One of them recanted the lineage. I believe it goes: Witte>US Oilwell(US Steel)>Arrow(US Steel). There would have to be another dozen of the forum members here that are also well versed in Witte. For starters try Arrow. After you have tried them, post the parts you can't find here and someone will chime in and point you in the right direction.

I should have remembered your name! Your pretty active on this site. My apologies. Yes, or at least they did. I vaguely recall that when I visited Arrow's plant and production facility, that their sign out front may have said something to that effect. I'm also pretty sure that it was Doug Waggonner of D Johnson that gave me the tour and I'm sure they will chime in and correct me if it wasn't!
My Witte, a 14 HP, Electric start, like the 12 HP, but it turns a bit faster, has a tag that indicates just that: "US Oilwell division of US Steel".
I built a replica control panel, on 1/2 thick Phenolic Board that has beautiful 2 pole 2 throw Polished Knife switches, Vintage large surface meters (5), a 0>150 for the 120, a 0>300 for the 240/250 V, (2) 0>50 amp direct shunt reading Ammeters, and a combination Reed type frequency meter/Hours meter. It's all wired in clothe covered wire, and is inclosed in an Oak Case, with a big glass door. All the terminations are Brass. The final touch was a little knife switch that operates (2) long filiment incandescents that light it up. It's hooked up with Mining cable to the Katolite generator using the 3 main conductors for the power output, and 2 of the 3 smaller ground conductors for the leads for the armature coming from the Basler regulator, which since it's not 1920/1930 vintage is hidden around back of the switchboard. I'll post pictures, but in the Generator section or the Diesel engine section when I get home from alaska.

US Steel bought Witte, from Witte
National Oilwell bought Witte From US Steel
Arrow bought Witte from National Oilwell

There isnt any connection between US Steel and Arrow.

I see where I got it mixed up. On thier Ad, (attached) in some of the small print it say's"Oilwell Division of US Steel", and doesn't say anything about National Oilwell.

What I liked about the 98RC, was the two piece head.It is a "L"head engine, but you could take the valve assy.to town and grind the valves without taking engine off the pumping unit.
