Good news, my pulley is 4.5"'s so my governor should spin at the correct speed. And on a better note, I managed to get the broken exhaust stud drilled out and tapped last night, yeehaw!

I've been tearing this thing down to start putting some fresh paint on and have a question about the governor mount bracket. It's no secret that this bracket has been repaired at least once. It also appears that something has broken off the back and am I wrong in assuming the bracket bolted onto the first exhaust manifold stud?

My bracket does not bolt to the exhaust manifold. It has two holes on top for the head studs, and three slots for the governor bolts.

Good news! I found my notes:

Before cutting the head and with no head gasket I had a good .125" clearance above the valves.

I cut the head .040". I was advised that I could have gone as deep as .080".

Afterwards, the motor runs more crisply. Timing is set at the stock spec (9 degrees BTDC) and the motor is happy there.

Fuel consumption was 2 GPH at full load before, and is at 1.3 GPH after. So success.

Thank you! I'm sure there are quite a few PE-95 owners out there that appreciate this information. As-is, this generator is a fuel hog, using 1 GPH with no load. This modification should bring the no-load fuel consumption down to some reasonable value.

Did you ever take a compression reading after shaving the head?

Its been coming along nicely with a few more surpises thrown in for good measure, a bent bottom crank pulley and a corroded through water pipe for example. Once I get the rad back in I can finally run it and see what other ghosts are hiding in there.
