Default John Deere Disk plow

Today I pulled this disk plow out of the line, I loosened a few things and tightend a few things greased and oiled any thing that moves on it then headed out to the dandelion field to try it out. I have no idea when this was last used but probably 40 or 50 years ago. I have never seen a disk plow work before but I like the way it works .it was a nice load for the old AR in second gear.

I would think the tail wheel should follow the furrow the last disc makes.

The ground here this year is very dry and hard so it tends to roll out and to the side sometimes. In some places in the field there is no moisture in the ground at all.

The few organic farmers down here like those for turning over quack grass and dandelions, more than regular plows. Bet the ar sounded pretty sweet. Thx for the pics

They are also called dryland plows because they will go in the ground when nothing else will. Setting a disc plow properly is art form. They have ton of side draft and if it trying to run beside you need more weight and need to adjust the angle of the wheels and probably the hitch.
I have some literature some where that tells the differences in setting molboards, oneways, and discplows.

Looks like a good time!
