It's a pot muffler, maybe for an IHC Victor or a Fairbanks Morse type N. Very desirable and very heavy.

I would say that it is for a Fairbanks Morse N, probably for a 5 or 8 HP. My opinion.

Thanks for your responses. It was amongst the bits and pieces that I got with my 6hp Waterloo Boy, would it be correct for this engine? I suspected it may have been a muffler but the weight put me off. As Harry stated, it is "very heavy". The photo's show a pipe screwed into one of the holes, it is about 3-4 foot long, what would have gone in the other hole? Thanks. No

Here's a pic of an IH engine set up with a similar muffler. I too was amazed by it... don't know why it's designed that way.

IHC Have flanges Fairbanks just tap in the castings. Marty
