Default Denny 8'' leather ring

Does any one have any leather rings made up for the piston

it's almost 5 years that I ran mine it runs but can't clamp down the ring on the leather
sure this is the leather the engines came with
would like to buy one
there is a saddle shop near by what kind of leather is best for this engine

I too could use an 8" Denny Leather piston ring if you find a source.

They're talking about the leather seals used on the power pistons of these and most other large hot air engines of the period. The provide an air seal without causing too much friction.

I just received a hot air engine piston leather from Don for an 8" Ericsson engine. It fit perfectly and the engine is running fine. Don now has the precision leather-forming dies once owned by Ralph Reeves. Ralph was the person who supplied top quality leathers for hot air engines over the past 25 years or more, and Don has now taken on that job. All bolt holes are pre-cut and leathers are soaked in lubricant so they are ready to install right out of the box. Highly recommended and very reasonably priced.

Hi, a friend of mine is restoring an old hot air engine and he is trying to find out what type of lubrication he needs, any ideas would be much appreciated.

Not sure what type of engine you're working with or what parts you want to lubricate, but some of us use Marvel Mystery Oil for larger engines with leather seals. Unlike a lot of oils, it will not burn if some gets into the bottom of the heated cylinder and can be periodically soaked out.
