Default Maytag 92 - Another one that won't run...

Hi,
I picked up a nice looking side exhaust, long base model 92 today.
It has great compression, Really nice hot blue spark on the plugs I tried.
It refuses to pop. It does draw air and fuel OK but no go. We tried a few drops of gas in the cylinder and same results.

We've tried N.O.S. Champion X plugs, and good Maytag plugs. All verified to spark very nice when grounded. Nothing seems to work. We have had finicky Maytags before but this one is really confusing since It has great compression, great spark and is getting a fuel/air mixture.

The previous owner said the points were set up by Maytag mark and it sure seems like it with such a beautiful hot spark. Anyone have any suggestions besides starting fluid?

Thanks all!
Stitch

I forgot to add,
The plug gaps are all set to .020 We even put brand new Autolite 3095 plugs
in, no Pop..... All had great blue spark, tried a few drops of gas in the Cyl with the new plugs, no pop either. Really frustrating... Could the timing be off maybe?

You know we all are being an arm chair quarterback, on this one. One thing to check is: Take the 4 jug bolts loose and make sure the cylinder to block gasket is installed correct. I bought one a couple years back, did the same thing. Someone had cut a gasket for that and didn't cut out the hole for the fuel going through the crank case to go into the cylinder. Check that spot.

Hi Tom,
Yes it is. It was triple checked and for leaks, Check valve is working also.
Will not pop even with gas in the cylinder. Still at a loss....
Thank you!

Well....
Turns out Mark Shulaw was at the LaGrange engine show this weekend and offered to get it running. After patiently listening to the horror story and nightmare of trying to get it running, Mark reached down, turned the throttle lever to the 2 o'clock position, kicked it 2 or 3 times and it roared to life! Wow!
Seems Tom, you were right. The lever was out of position. It runs super good now. One kick started cold and purrs beautifully!
Mark instructed my husband on how to properly set the lever. What a Magician!!! Thank you Everyone with your input, special thanks to Douglas too! and Thank you Mark!!
