your OTC probably has a "." after OTC-1 s/n 12 2. 37105
which would make it a built date of Dec 1942

What is the rest of the ID plate say.
I have the OTC composite service & parts manual in paper for them. Full of lots of info.

The best way to get manuals is to post an new thread "Manuals wanted for " then all the information that you have listed model, spec and serial # in the thread title as well as an email address to send them to. That way the smart guys will notice it right away. You can add to the thread with your progress on the generator later on. Cheers Dan

Default Help identifying generator.

Hi guys !!!
I recently bought a food truck and it came with an Onan 5.0 GenSet generator.
I'm wondering if it runs off of gas or propane or natural gas...
13943 is the serial number on generator.
And
Vd60a... 7-1986 Zenith is the model of carburetor.

It also came with a:
Gen/Tran transfer switch
Model 20216
125/250 VAC
20 AMP maximum output
15 AMP maximum per circuit
(Just checking to see if that's ok to run with it)

I've been looking for answers on the Web for the generator, and brought over a friend that's a mechanic, but he wasn't quite sure which it was either.
We ruled out it being diesel because it has spark plugs, but the size of the intake was questionable because of how large it is.
If anyone has any information, then I'd greatly appreciate it !!!
Thank you !
Les
:-)

We need the COMPLETE model number to get you the correct manuals. It should look like this: 5.0BGA-3CR/16004A

The serial number would help as well, the one you posted was too short. Onan used a few different formats for serial numbers, depending on when it was made.

Posting a few pictures would be a great help.

Here's some pictures.
I don't see any other numbers on the Genny.
It's kinda hard to get to the back of it, and nothing came up when I took random pictures with my phone back there.
Is there a specific place I should look ?
Hey, thanks for your reply !!!
I really appreciate it !
If you need any other pictures then let me know.

Here's the Gen/Tran switch.
I don't know if you can tell me anything about it.
Is it good for this generator ?
I just trusted the guy I bought it off of.
(I also added a few more pictures of the Genny.
Thanks !!!

You have a later model Onan CCK generator. The data plate with the model and serial numbers is missing. The model number starts with 5.0CCK. The spec letter would be R or later because you have the square UN generator head.

The carburetor appears to be gaseous only, propane or natural gas. There is no sign the carburetor was equipped to run on gasoline. The only way to tell is disassemble it and check to see if the float is present. The gasoline fuel pump is missing, so I'm going to guess it came from the factory as a gaseous fueled only generator. You are missing the demand regulator (Garretson), the high pressure regulator, and the fuel cut off solenoid.

Go here and download some manuals.
http://www.twinslan.net/~n0nas/manuals/onan/

900-0186 UN generator manual
927-0220 Parts
927-0754 Engine service
T-015 gaseous Fuels manual

In addition, a few manuals for a slightly older series CCK will be helpful:

927-0500 service
927-0310 Owners and parts
PM200B Onan engine master service manual

Remove the electrical box cover (With the Onan 5.0 GenSet printed on it) and take some pictures. There should be a wiring diagram printed on the back of the cover. Remove the band around the generator end and take some pictures of the brush assembly. This will help us determine what the output is.

I really want to thank you for taking the time out of your day to help me !!!
I took a few more pictures and found another cereal number.
ONAN 170-3035
It's hard to get to the back of it without taking it out of the truck.
Let me know if these are the right pictures.
I have 4 more to upload.
