Default Rumely Oil Pull model M 20-35 Parts and Advice Wanted

Hi all, I'm new to this site but I was hoping someone might be able to help, I have a 20-35 Rumely that is pretty bad shape and was hoping for some help with some parts I'm missing. Firstly I'm missing the complete air cleaner, I have the cast elbow with the choke butterfly but nothing else, the lower primary drive guard, I'm also missing the water tank complete and the decompression taps. I realise the parts are pretty hard to come by these days but would be interested in photos or drawings so I could make some new ones if old ones aren't available.
I'm making new cylinder liners because one of the old ones was cracked and they were worn out anyway but was wondering whether the rings are supposed to be pegged, the ones I took out weren't and there's no evidence of them on the pistons but was concerned about the ends of the rings catching on the oil feed hole on the top of the liner?
Any help would be great as I'm hoping to get the Rumely to a few shows this year!

Now is the time to modify the pistons for oil control rings too.
The rings are not pinned.
The air cleaner is (was?) being reproduced by Robo Machine somewhere in the north east U.S. We got one and were pretty happy with it!
The original is a Donaldson XX.
Good luck finding a water tank.......
The lower guard is THE most impossible thing ever....... .......except for the upper half.

AND

WELCOME to STAK.......

Craig,
You were close, the air cleaner is from ROMO machine
http://www.bbb.org/buffalo/Business-...s-ny-66006401/

I got one as well and was happy with it. I ended up working over some of the solder joints, but that was personal preference.

Welcome to the stack Neil.

I got valve guides and a pump impellar for a 20-35 from hime and was happy as well. He is nice to work with, I sent him some things for duplication and he rounded up other things I did'nt have from others and duplicated them.

Question Re: Rumely Oil Pull model M 20-35 parts and advice wanted

Thanks a lot everyone! I'll get in touch with Robo machine and see what they can do, the air filter was the bit I most needed as I don't have anything to copy. I have the upper guard and some photos of a lower guard so should be able to fabricate one. Thanks for the hint about the oil control ring, I'm guessing you just replace the 5th compression ring, doubt there's enough meat in the piston for another groove? Just working on the cam followers and cam carrier at the moment, seems a follower/lifter has turned at some point and snapped the casting in half, is this a common fault?

Craig here: Yes.......drill some holes in the bottom of the lowest ring groove and enjoy a much cleaner running engine......

I would not pin the pistn rings on your M. The rings should not catch in the small oil hole. Mistakes in using pins can cause a lot of trouble.

You should be able to make a decent looking gear cover if you can get a pattern we have made three so far,the air cleaners are pretty good from romo they look pretty close to the originals you may be better off paying for the aircleaner my dad and me made one and it wasnt easy to do,more so without the right tools.I would go and measure someones 20 35 M rumely water tank and go from there,im sure it will all work out for you.

Thanks everyone for the advice, will keep you posted and try to add some photos of the progress. Does anyone have any decompression taps or even a photo and rough measurements so I can make some? Are they normally always used for starting like a JD 2cylinder, or just as a drain for when it's flooded?
Thanks again. Neil

You can get drain cocks which are very close to the originals at McMaster-Carr >>> http://www.mcmaster.com/#gauge-cocks/=gd590z

Check out the NPTF Male x Spout with lever.

Here is a picture of the petcock from my recently acquired Rumely 20-30. It has left hand threads and seats off the bottom. Apparently it was built, assembled, and then the handle was formed. I don't know if this is correct for yours, but hopefully it helps.
