Smile Thompson and sons mfg co.

Hi all, i am restoring a Thompson engine made in Beloit, Wi and was wondering 2 things. Serial # is 5734 and is a sparkplug engine. I don't have an idea on how the contact is made for the buzz coil. What they had was a part of a hacksaw blade to make contact with the cam gear. Also is this what is known as the tiger? Thanks for your help.
