Hi;

I am a new member. I have read Smokstak threads that I have come across, before. This is my current problem. I have a IH TD-20 200 series crawler tractor. The magneto went dead and it is hopefully getting fixed. In the mean time, I am trying to get the engine timed so I am ready for the mag when it comes. I have some information and photos that I will try to post. 3 photos did upload. I guess I will see if they go with this post. All new to me. My trouble is I see 2 different marks on the flywheel. I do not know which one to use. A big hello to my new friends here on smokstak.

If the mag has an impulse, it should impulse at TDC or just past. The mark you show is TDC for cylinders #1 and #6. You have to have #1 on compression stroke and the mag timed to it. You can find #1 compression by having the engine switched to gas and spark plug out, and holding your thumb over the plug hole and turning the engine.

Thank you for responding. I made a whistle of sorts and put in number 1 cylinder spark plug. Turned the motor over till it started to whistle. I slowly jogged the engine over till these marks showed up. Must have been done before because of the yellow paint. I can see two marks. I don't know which one to use. thank you
