Some of the old foundry school books that I used were printed back in the 1920s they refered to that as pot metal or galvanizers dross and should only be used for casting novelty items or other low value goods. It is no wonder it behaves as it does, it contains so many tramp elements that only form a mixture not an alloy so it corrodes with in its self

G Just saw this post and called Mark of Marks Magneto and asked what he recommends in this situation. He said the 2 unused leads should be tied together and screwed to a solid ground. If not the back feed will burn out the coil. Ed B
