Default SSL Certificate Installation (https:// Encryption)

We are in the process of installing SSL technology on Smokstak and Enginads. There are a few bugs to work out, but apparently nothing too serious.

Default Smokstak going encrypted

Congratulations on adding HTTPS secure connections to the Smokstak forum! The browser is complaining about mixed content, but I'm sure that can be cleared up soon.

I have IE 11. Sometimes things will flash on and off and I can't get anywhere. Only way I could reply was to use quick reply.

A whole bunch of refinements were needed, especially with links. There are a lot more of them yet to take care of.

The remaining problem is "mixed content" upsetting the browsers. They have gotten rather snarky in the past year in an attempt to beat down the scam artists. It's a real PITA for me, knowing when to use https: or http: to link internal graphic images.

Over all, I hope this is an improvement and not a big excursion down a rabbit hole! At least I have the GREEN LOCK on my administrative control panel.

I've been testing on Firefox 49.0.1 and IE11.

I got on the stak today 9/30/16, and the Current topics and photos on the ads won't come up. Library is using windows professional (7 I think) and has their own protection that does not let certain functions to operate. Stak problem or mine?
Andrew

When there is a GREEN padlock on the url, all is fine.

Gray = not quite so well.

Yellow = mixed https: and http: content, usually photos and images.

Red = no damn good.

Truthfully, I think we've gone off the deep end, but folks were pushing for this security change. Your web browser programmers were pushing for it and your Virus Protector companies are pushing it. There are simply a whole lot of scammers out there wanting to screw with us and you don't go on line with your bank or PayPal without an https padlock showing on the address bar!

SSL= Secure Sockets Layer

IE11 = Current Version of Microsoft Internet Explorer

Firefox 49 = Current Version of Mozilla Firefox

Other web browsers include Chrome, Opera and Safari among many others.

You think that you are computer challenged? The deeper I get into this crazy stuff, the more challenged I feel. What's better than a good challenge to keep your mind alert?

The padlock is GREEN on this page and many others. I still have a problem with the Gallery photos when included on the top of the main page.

I've turned them off for now, but I'm sure there's a way to deal with the mixed content.

Still working on it!

Still working on this. With Enginads, I was beating my head on the wall with graphic images. Then I realized that I had a non-filching .htaccess that kept other web sites from stealing bandwidth and my images. I must have programmed that in 15 years ago.

In other words, if I coded pages with http: it worked. If I coded it with https: the images were gone. That was good for a day of going nuts!

Anyway, slowly, but surely, I'm getting it done. Installing SSL on a web site is not for the faint-hearted or those with lost marbles. It is also more than simply placing re-directs to change http: pages to https:.

By the way, if your web browser belches and throws up an error, hit their TRY AGAIN button and it will most likely produce. If not, hit it again.

Fixed it! The Forum Home Gallery Photos are back on the main forum index page. https://www.smokstak.com/forum/

Another case of something I did years ago that needed to be updated. Now, I've got to do some other chores around the house or I'll be in trouble with the better half. I've been working on the computer too much!
