Here is a JD plow my buddy stumbled onto. Any idea of the model? I cant find anything that has that style attachment from frame to beam. Also what looks like a clamp style tail wheel.

Thanks much. Never heard of a diamond back. Are they kind of rare?

Yes. They are. And it's a cast knuckle. Probably early 40's vintage.

Can I ask what makes it a "diamondback" plow, and what the specific features would be to identify it positively?

I have one that looks very similar to the one in post 321 (at least to me), but I'm not knowledgeable at identifying specific models of plow. Ours is 3-16, with steel wheels (see pictures). Whatever it is, it plows well.

The back stabilizing beam is set up as a diamond configuration. Later they set it down flat. The truss for each plow standard has a cast knuckle... Later ones went to gusseted plates and did away with the casted ones. I suppose cheaper and stronger. The cast ones do occasionally break if you have rocky ground.

Doing some scanning for an article and came across this - 1918. A number of companies made these. It would be fun to see one in action. My Ideal tractor hauled one, though probably not a P&O, in breaking work.

Mr G
If I remember right there was one on the Bloomgren auction a few years back maybe someone else knows where it went.

Hello all,
A friend of mine scored this disc plow and does not know what kind it is.
I am not real well versed in disc plows and have not seen it in person. Looks to be a JD, but not positive so I told him I would post it here where all the well educated Smokstakkers could take a look and help us out.
Thanks in advance for being such a great resource for everyone in need.

Tony

Tony in 1962 there was in Holland already and farmer that buld an plow robot.

You do not have to sit on the tractor anymore and you can go to your bed and let the robot do the work.

It is not steeled wheels but it is very intresting to watch,

Keep posting your wonderful threads,

In about 1937 there was a radio-servo controlled Farmall F-30. It was described in Gray's Tractor Development book.

Hello to all. This is new to me so be kind. Thanks Tony for the post of pictures in post #332. I found this plow in a old farmers fence line and it took a better part of 6 months to convince him to sell it. This past weekend i scratched around on it and found some ih markings and cast numbers starting with PO. Any literature i have come across does not match up to ih disk plows. If you look at the rear adjust crank it faces toward the operator and all ih i have found face the rear of plow. On the back casting is a name but have not been able to make it out. I will try to post pictures but it is my first time so be patient. Thanks.
Photo 1 is disc part #. Photo 2 is rear casting. Photo 3 is a symbol on a casting. Photo 4 is casting on clutch lift.

That IHC PO plow is the same model as was given free with a Titan or 8-16 in the late stages of the tractor war with Ford . Its a single digit number maybe 5 Pictured in post 317
