I picked one up, wondering if there is a way to quiet down the gears, can it be taken apart?

No gears. Motor connects to crank with a rubber belt

There's gears inside, in the base

Every one I've owned has made the same noise. It's part of the noise maker inside for what they call "authentic sound".

I have one with a broken belt and one that's busted off the base (base tabs broke but engine is good) but haven't found a way yet to tear them apart without doing more harm than good.

That was mine in the video when I had it on eBay. Did you get it or did you get a different one ?

Different one, it would be cooler if it wasnt so noisy, but its still cool, I feel I scored it at a good price compared to some others going for double

I have one with a broken belt, could use an "O" ring of proper size, if I could only find how to take it apart with out damaging it...

I have one of these, the internal drive belt broke, can't figure out how to get it apart for repair, so it sits on the shelf.
