Photo Hanomag AR38 with D52 Engine

We are amid language barriers and out of stock parts in the restoration of this Hanomag tractor. With Benoit Christiaen's help, we found Theopold Tractor Parts because Hans Heinrich Munk does not have the glow plugs. Unfortunately, there is no picture on the website for the glow plug we believe we need. Here is a picture of the tractor and the glow plugs. The "replacement" plug is BERU stamped 6 volt; TYP 171 (which is it's kilowatt rating.) We checked out their parts catalogs and found nothing that would appear to fit. The thread is 1" x 14 thread pitch.

Staged Photo inside is from Dragone Auctioneers website. Doesn't she look pretty?

We hope some Stakker out there has the connection to help us get the restoration of this beautiful machine back on track.

Hello Retrofitt88,

The glowplugs you are looking for are Beru 171W
Every now and than they pop op on ebay for sale but they are rare and only used for these engines and where only made by hanomag and beru.

With a 1 inch thread you have the option of making a threaded bush and use a modern glow plug, of which there is many options available, I have a 2 cylinder Deutz tractor that I did this to and it works perfectly. You only have to find the right voltage and reach.

Hi Retrofit88,

You can find 3 of them on Ebay in Germany.

Its a great very original tractor, very hard to find in this condition. Most of these tractors where converted into rubber tires. It also still has the double battery tray, one for the 6 volt battery for the glowing system ( the beru 171w's are 6 volt) and a 12 volt battery for starting. That would mean you have a 12 volt generator with a risistor for the 6 volt battery.

For the glowplugs you could also use Bosch 0 250 002 004 or KE/GA2/4 These are the original replacement for the beru 171w and easier to find. The old glowplugs are easy to modify to make the new ones fit

Hello Joaquim,

your pictures are not visible.

The horse is the heraldic animal of the city of Hannover, where the Hanomags were build.
I think you mean this horse in front of the radiator:
http://pictures.tractorfan.nl/groot/...nd-hanomag.jpg

The horse was only on the first rd36, yours from 1931 is from the first production year.
My AGR38 has a later front plate.

Try to contact theopold-parts:

replace the (ed) in the line above with an @.
Theopold knows the pre-war Hanomags very well, sells many parts and might find a way for you to get the horse back.

kind regards,
Fabian

Dear Fabian,
I found the glow plugs two different times, so now we have ONE spare glow plug. The Hanomag glow plugs had a porcelain washer. The BERU 171W that came out of the Hanomag does not. We don't know if it ever ran with the BERU 171W plug intact. We were able to get the wiring diagram for another tractor that has two six volt batteries. We are looking for a resistor to make sure we don't kill the new glow plugs. We were wondering if you can take close up pictures of your tractor from the other side. Also, if anyone out there has insight about wiring this tractor, we'll appreciate any guidance you are able to provide.
