Default Associated not starting

Hey everyone I picked up my first engine about a month ago. Im still learning about them and Im having an issue with starting it. once it starts it will run but it gives me a fit getting there. Ill soak cloth in gas and put that in the intake, That will make it fire but when i pull the cloth out to try again gas pours out of the intake and it will not start. Thought i was flooding it but wont start with a lean mixture at all. Checked the ball valve and spark. both are good any help will be appreciated. I apologize for the novice questions. Thanks for any ideas or thoughts

1 3/4 is a chore boy. There are a couple common associated issues to check for. Make shure the gas tank vent in the cap is correctly venting if no vent or a clogged vent the tank will create pressure and force fuel out of the carb. Also check to make shure the check valve is orientated correctly. Fuel should only flow when the carb has a vacuum present. And if the intake valve spring is weak the intake valve will flutter while the engine is coasting causing the carb to keep pulling fuel and will cause a dripping carb. If the engine is equipped with the older style pancake carb a small amount of fuel dripping from the carb is normal. It's not uncommon to see a cup added under the carb to catch the over flow fuel.

I just seen another post about this engine and it shows a heavily modified carb that is most likely your issue I'd check the listed above and if every thing test ok repair the carb back to original or find a replacement.
