Default SA-200 polarity

I have a 1955 SA-200 that sat for about 10 years when i got it running the polarity was reversed so i flashed the field and corrected it and went to use it a couple days later and it was reversed again. It welds good and the auxiliary plug has good voltage. Any

I know a pipeliner who had a 1970 sa200 that switched polarity. he just swapped the leads and used it for 4 or 5 months before he flashed the fields and corrected it. I don't think it hurts anything to use it that way but I would think it should stay once you fixed it. I would try again and do some pretty heavy welding with it. Maybe it will stay this time.
