Hi Patrick

Thanks for uploading these excellent photos. I would be very interested to find out more about the four steam portable engines. You have the first two labelled as "Southern Cross" and "Comet", although the second of these has the name "S. Williams & Co." on the cylinder. The second pair of engines also look very interesting, with one of them on just two wheels. Any more information on all these would be very much appreciated!

Did you make it to Lake Goldsmith in the end? We were there on the Saturday, but the rain was torrential - luckily most of the stuff was in the sheds, so still had a great time, met loads of people and took hundreds of photos.

All the best

David

Hi David. The Southern Cross was made by the well known firm of Southern Cross in Qld. It is a very rare steamer and beautifully restored. The 'Comet' was made by Sidney Williams & Co. I don't know if the boiler is servicable on the 'Comet' but it was operating on steam provided by the Southern Cross.
I did not make it to Lake Goldsmith this time as other commitments did not allow me to make the trip down there. I hope to make it there again so as it is well worth the trip
Patrick

Hi Patrick

Thanks for those details - certainly some rare engines, and amazing what's out there still.

Wish I could make it over to Lake Goldsmith for the Diesel rally in March, as sounds like it is going to be a good one.

All the best

David
