Default We Have Lost a Moderator

I am sad to announce the passing of Peter Forbes "Lister Diesel".
Peter passed away the morning March 8th from a heart attack. Those who have followed Peters journey as of late will well know of the challenges life has handed him and his family.
Peter left a wife, Rita and as I understand it he had sons as well.
Many have refered to "Peter and Ritas engine pages" as a huge source of info for the old engine hobby.
I am woefully underqualified to speak of his accomplishments but those who were lucky enough to have known him in person speak glowingly of his character.
We are having a hard time finding an obituary to link to but when we find one we will post it in the memorial section. I felt the diesel fuel members would need to see this.
We have lost an irrepaceable diesel man.
Rest in peace Peter.

Peter Forbes was a good engine man and a GREAT human being. I got to personally meet Peter on a few occasions and conversed with him from time to time via the internet and it was always a joy to chat with him. I never got across the water to meet him on his own soil although he extended the offer more than once. Each time our old engine world loses a person like Peter then a bit of the knowledge, kindness and closeness the hobby brings to us is lost as well. Our prayers are with Peter, his family and those that feel the loss of this fine person.

Although I have never met Peter, he has been a part of the Smokstak family for many years, and a familiar name on here. May he rest in Eternal Peace.

Sorry to read about Peter's passing.
Was hoping to see him at the Nuenen show in May.
Peter Forbes and Johnny Nuttin will both be missed at Nuenen this year.:(

I am lucky to have met Peter at Nuenen several times, plus met him in California a couple of times when he came to visit friends of his in CA.

This is sad news - they were both nice fellows. Johnny stopped in to see us years ago with his family - we had a very nice visit. And Peter was always nice to talk to at Portland. Sad to lose these good folks in the hobby.

Peters obituary as written for Stationary Engine Magazine by Martin P. and posted here with their kind permission.

Obituary Peter Forbes
February 1946 – March 2018
Its is my sad duty to announce that Peter Forbes passed away in March after suffering a heart attack from which he didn’t recover. Peter was one of those people who would go out of his way to help anybody who needed his knowledge or some practical support.
After working for other companies Peter started his own called Prepair Ltd in 1980 designing and manufacturing Industrial Battery charging systems for the Railway companies, at the same time he developed an interest in Stationary Engines.
It wasn’t long before Peter began to offer other Engine collectors a small service, his business had him visiting customers up and down the country and If anybody needed something collected or delivered and it was on Peters route he would oblige, he was also a well read man and if he didn’t have an answer he would have a book that did. In 1998 Peter set about creating a Website dedicated to Engines, Peter & Rita Forbes' Engine Web Pages, currently there are 10,539 pages of engine related information, photograph and anything else engine related.
In 2008 Peter became very involved with “Fozzers Forum” a Stationary Engine Forum, he eventually took over the running of it from its original creator and has hosted it ever since, it now has over 3433 registered members from all over the UK and World.
Over the last couple of years Peter had some health issues but this didn’t stop him from building his large caravan trailers which he towed behind his Land Rover Discovery to Rally’s in the UK and Europe to attend Nuenen Rally._
On a personal note Peter was a good friend to my wife and I and when ever I worked away from home, which was often, he would ring my wife to check if all was well, she is partially disabled and doesn’t get around easily.
There are many engine enthusiasts who will mourn his passing and our condolences go out to his wife Rita and sons Robert and Philip.
