Default Green Stripe on Monitor Screen?

I have had this problem for 2 months now. A wide green stripe about 1/3 in from the left of screen.

It does this on most vids, youtube, news vids, info vids, etc.

Has anyone had this problem?

What would cause this and how would one fix it?

This only happens on my laptop. The desktop works just fine.

Newer HP laptop, win-10.

Thanks,

Jim

Only in videos? Like, only in the black box that videos would play in?
Or top to bottom of the monitor, all the time, but more noticible in videos?

If the former: windows/ soft driver or codec issue, possibly directX issue. (may be fixable, don't ask me, my solution would be to remove the Windows virus)

If the latter: broken monitor driver. "dead pixels" (replace monitor)

Take picture with camera aimed at sun, then another with lens fully covered. Port them to laptop and view each. If green stripe persists when viewing then carefully shutdown computer. Go outside.... now start up and listen to an old engine run for as long as it takes to calm your calm yourself enough to handle the news that you need a new laptop.

Now that is funny.

As stated, it only does it when videos play. About 95% of the time. Sometimes they play OK. Doesn't affect photos. SO, I don't think it a hardware problem.

All else works just fine with no problems.

???????????????

Could still be a GPU hardware problem. I'd look for a graphics test utility and have it give your GPU a workout. What video player are you using? Might try swapping players and see if problem persists. VLC is free and fairly dependable.

WELL, Guess WHAT!

It is not a computer problem. It is a Firefox problem. I played 4 vids on IE and on Firefox. IE played them with no problems. All 4 Firefox vids had the GREEN STRIPE on the screen.

I am going to uninstall Firefox and reload it and see what happens.

Later,

Jim

Well, that Damn green stripe is GONE!!!

Uninstalled Ff and reloaded it and works just fine, now.

Thanks for the replies and help,

Jim

Dusty

It was an off the wall thought to try that. I am not a computer geek and I didn't want to get into a fix by doing something wrong and not being able to reverse what I mess up. It was pure luck on my part that it worked out OK.
