Default Huber 40-62?

purchased a huber tractor today and i am in need of some info and parts possibly. the tractor has a stearns engine in it with a bore of 5 1/2" engine tag says it is a stearns model EU # 303885. there is a tag on the left rear fender that says the tractor# is 10657. the head gasket broke when i took the head off to get penetrating oil into the cylinders to free the engine up. tractor seems to be complete for the most part except for no seat and the exhaust manifold has been welded and patched many many times, any and all information is greatly appreciated.

There is an ad in the current Antique Power of a gentleman selling stearns manifolds. Would be worth investigating.

The serial number sounds late enough that it would be a 40-62 and not the earlier 25-50 (pretty much the same tractor). Mose Miller casts these manifolds and he lives in Millersburg OH. I think his business is named Doughty Valley Repair. The Stearns manifolds were prone to this sort of thing - I think I've seen one good original out of the 30-40 I've closely looked at. Nice project and best of luck -

Andy

You can get a complete gasket set or seperate piceces from Olsen Gasket co. in Oregon. Great people to work with. I rebuilt my EU engine.

Dwight: If that's olsonsgaskets.com you're referring to, they're in Port Orchard, Wash., and, yes, they're very highly spoken of.

Glad to announce as of last Saturday I have an excellent block in the shop for the 40-62 and also have purchased a set of rear steel wheels and 6 " extensions to put her back on full steel again. So hopefully in the next couple weeks or so the old girl will come to life for the first time in 30+ years. Pictures to come

Great project! always fun to have something a bit different but I must ask, what happened to the Minneapolis Moline Jet Star in the background of one of your first pictures?

That jetstar is still in my collection. It's all original I bought it from a township that purchased it new came with all the books and the nos drawbar that was never installed. Only thing it ever done was mow with 3pt. And always inside kept the original paint intact.

Hi Dave. I haven't forgot about the belt pulley for your TC in the background!! I'll get it off this weekend.

I have a customer's 18-36 Huber in the shop right now. Just pulled the head last night to free up #2 and deal with a few more issues. It's an older restoration that has been sitting for a while.

The 40-62 is nearly ready for startup next weekend should be it. Curious as to the correct color for it was under the impression the earlier 25-50's were light army drab green but the later 40-62's were darker? was hoping someone could shed more light on the question? after the rings are seated and all if any leaks are addressed ill pull her back down for paint and finish it. thank you

Belted old girl up and she fired up as soon as gas was turned on. Need some fine tuning but seems as everything is operable. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YpK2Xb9pbEc

Tractor #10657 was built in August of 1930 as a 40-62. It was sold 7/25/32 to W. H. Maehin of Williamsfield, IL.

Thank you mark for the information. Funny 82 years after it was sold new it only moved about 50 miles. Hopefully be painted later this winter. And plowing next year. She sure sounds good at the shop running.
