I would sure stick with non detergent. I usually take an engine completely apart and clean it but last year I bought an FTA that was already running so when I changed oil I put in 30wt. detergent and basically gave it a detergent oil enema. Oil was seeping out the exhaust gaskets down the side of the heads, sucked in the oil filter and it took two more oil changes with non detergent to somewhat straighten things out. Yoowsaah!

The tractor belongs to the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village at Essex Ontario Canada which I volunteer to help restore vehicles, equipment and buildings.

That's why I clean out the oil sump and every place I can before we run them. Most old engines can be accessed by dropping the pan and side covers and the valve cover, a good scrubbing and rinse will get most every thing cleaned up.

Sorry for the double post, but I also meant to ask about changing oil in my 40-62. Does anyone know if there is an oil filter and gasket made that would fit my 1938 Huber 40-62?

Also, does anyone have an opinion on what type of oil to use? I've read 30W...I've read 15W-40 diesel oil....etc. Anyone have a solid opinion?

Thanks!
I have an original Huber manual that covers the Huber "HS", "HK", "HK" Special and the Super Four Model 40-62 H.P. It is not dated and is printed by The Gray Printing Co. in Fostoria, Ohio. It is 11 pages not including the front and rear covers. It is in almost new condition. It has 26 photos of the different tractors, specific parts, engines and transmisions.
