Make sure you put enough clearance in the bores or you will be doing this again. If you use the automotive formula, you will lock the engine up again. Check the oil cooling pump for proper circulation, air can get drawn in around the oil pump shaft and cause cavation which leads to overheating. Gasoline will not cause this issue, old tale. The higher the octane cooler the combustion. Use 2 cycle oil for upper end lube, it actually works great for this.

we decided to go with .011 clearance. the side that got tight had .007 clearance at the bottom of the bore, the other side had .008. this tractor, although being under a restoration, will be used for plowing, threshing, etc. not so many hours per year but she needs to work well when called upon. there may be many opinions on what one thinks clearance should be, but this is what we are doing.

Whether or not it makes any difference we went with .008" for a 16-30.
Those things run hot so piston expansion is more of an issue.

Stort of on a spur of the moment, decided to try and blast prime and paint main chassis. Maybe fronts soon too, but the rears will need the bulls taken off for some rivet work for both loose and missing rivets... and then... blast prime and paint rears. Any one have lugs around for a 2040? Be happy to get this done b4 winter and then I can assemble motor over the winter.i think it got 20 hours into steam washer on the frame and tinwork.

Transformation Tuesday. Looks dark to me but is dark in shop too will lighten when outside. Same custom mix as 1630 I have

That is the same color on mine with a dark oxblood red wheels, I really like it better than lighter.

All 3 small heavyweights used the Bosch DU2 didn't they? Some had a manual impulse, while others had the auto impulse coupling.

du2 is correct, and that is what this one has on it. however, the du4,2 is a better mag for the application.

The fenders are quite rotten, so they got all torn apart. Will make all new fenders with original angle iron. Because this tractor had been painted with a latex paint, great care is being taken to sandblast every part down to white metal. The left fender had a home made took box which was well made, that will go back onto the new fender.
In an unrelated topic but related, rollag will be hosting rumely expo 2022..

Sand blasting over the weekend. Plan for cab corners and fenders is to paint them disassembled, then hot rivet, and then scuff and paint as an assembled unit. That way the covered surfaces all have good paint in between overlaps.
