Default help me find SN# and date/yr of mfr on Oliver Hart Parr

Hello, all;
this is Mike with PAMA - the Paulson Ag Museum of Argyle.
We are actually on the outskirts of Rockford IL.
Argyle IL is one of those little historic towns you won't notice if you go by or through at highway speeds.

I was told once that Hart Parr was a separate company up to 1927 or 28 when they merged with Oliver; they made an "Oliver Hart Parr" in 1929 and after that everything was Oliver. Therefore, our "Oliver Hart Parr" MUST be made in 1929 - it only takes a brief internet search to blow that out of the water.

Where should I look for a VIN# on this tractor?
HOw can I figure out what year it is?
Any help appreciated.

the second picture looks like a 0240 on the block - that wouldn't be the tractor VIN would it?

Behind the oil filter there is a ID tag riveted on the side of the block, that should have the SN stamped on it. It is a fairly early Row Crop, later units had a taller radiator and were referred to as the Row Crop 80 The first built ones had a single front wheel, these were built in about 1930, yours is closer to 32, I'm guessing. I believe the SN is also stamped on the rear housing some where, not sure where though. The merger was in 1930, and these tractor weren't released till after the merger. They continued to use the Oliver Hart Parr name for several years after the merger. Our 70 Row Crop was built in 36 and it still has the Hart Parr on the radiator shell. That number on the bracket is the part number for that casting.

Look at the third picture. The serial number tag is there by the filter. 1930 was the first year for them and the serial number will be a 6 digit number starting with 100***. single front wheel models ended with serial number 103313. On later ones the word Oliver was larger than the words Hart Parr. 1937 was when the words Hart Parr were dropped. More questions?

Here is a picture of the tag on my "80". it is on the side of the engine block. To the right on the engine is a # stamped, I think is the engine #. I couldn't fine a # stamped on the transmission housing.

The large Oliver and small Hart Parr appeared about 1934, so yours is built after that. For a complete list of serial numbers and info on the 18-27 go to this site.

Default Progress on identification of Oliver Hart Parr

Thanks to All of you!
Now we have it narrowed down to 1934-35
And we know where to look for the SN plate
AND, we have a link for the SN list!
I'll let you all know what we find.
Previously, I think everyone was fooled by the term "cultivator is a 1936)
It would make sense if the tractor was a 34 or 35 and the cultivator was one year newer, right?

Once John S said where to look for the SN tag - I can see in the picture exactly where to look - in fact I think I see a tag OR a spot on the block where a tag may have been removed.

I was out there earlier today; next trip I know where to look for the VIN - thanks everyone!

no particular significance to these pix; just thought I'd add!

Default identification of Oliver Hart Parr

Again, thanks for everyone's help.
The plate was staring me in the face the whole time of course.
We had an open house yesterday then the big meeting room was used by a local card group.
About the time the whist started whistling or whatever game they were playing, water started coming in, so myself and several other board members spend a few hours bailing out water.
Today I went by to survey damage in daylight, and just to see the place in the sunshine, and to get this ID Plate.
Right there it was, if it was a snake it would have bit me.
It was clearly visible - but not readable, in one of the pictures I submitted here.
Thanks for your patience, gentlemen.
And mostly thanks for your help.
Oh, our Oliver Hart Parr is VIN # 108547, made in 1937.
(If I read the chart right.)

Come visit if you are ever in NOrthern IL!!
