Default Ruff Family Collection Auction 9-28-2019 Edgely ND

An interesting auction coming up that has some pretty rare items on it. For those interested in the steam traction engines it would be best to contact the State of ND for an accurate boiler condition report. I've seen the 80 Case at the Braddock ND showgrounds and the Nichols sat outside the Fullerton ND showgrounds for years. From what I could see both boilers needed repairs and neither had been fired for some time.

I plan on attending and might meet some of you there!

I'm familiar with the collection. The boiler of the N&S was taken out of service some 30 yrs ago by the state inspectors. The crown sheet is very thin and failed the ultrasound. Those readings are still visible if you shine a good light up in the fire box, we double checked last week. Some of the readings were under less than 1/8 in. There is also a poor repair on the lower front tube sheet. At some time past when they were running it at Fullerton, the lower corners were patched, not sure how extensive. I don't know the rest of the readings, but if the interior is like the fire box, I wouldn't expect it to be much better. Apparently the engine came from a bad water location back in the day. The engine has been sitting in that spot used for a park ornament for the past 30+ years. The smoke box door disappeared recently. Wonder if it was taken back to the farm by the auctioneers? Are they going to sell it where it sits, or try to move it back to the rest of the collection location? It is totally seized up and sunk into the ground, took root!, Locals tried to move it a few years back , when that show liquidated and had an auction, and gave up as it didn't budge. We talked to Mr Ruff about it some 20 yrs back but he wasn't in a selling mood! Like many of us, he still had visions of repairing it, but time caught up with him as it will for all of us. The hand holes are all still in place so good or bad I didn't see the inside of the boiler.

No, only ever saw it from a distance. At one time it was in the mini museum building they had, things were piled deep in there at the time.

My Brother In Law just called me tonight and we talked about this auction.
Thanks Mark for posting this!
Do we have a poster, .pdf or some-such instead of Proxy-Bid's intrusion and their showing only feature items available??
BIL is going and I will IF I'm available. The gas engine magazine shows it with the 20 or so gas engines etc.
Saw a couple of Twin City tractors to the right and left of the Minneapolis...
Thank you.
Thanks Bill. I just may may try to get in touch with Gib.
EDIT: Recaptcha does not work well with Mozilla based web browsers. Bill, IF you see this, PM me, would you?
