Default Onan Microquiet 4000 Error code 32

Hello everyone I'm new here to he forum. Hopefully you guys can help me. Here is the information on my generator. Onan Microquiet 4000. Fuel is gas and hour meter reads 386.8. Model 4KYFA26100K. Spec K S/N E020370096. Control board 300-5046. I bought the Motor Home back in 2003 and I haven't had any trouble until now. We were on a trip and the generator was running and then it stopped and would not restart. I have done some trouble shooting and this is what I found. Displays error code 32, will only run for about 2 seconds with start button held on or off. I have taken the carb off and gave it a good cleaning and the fuel cutoff is working. I jumped it to the hot side of the solenoid and can hear it clicking. I did some resistance checks. I am using diagram 0611-1267. I think this is the correct one. F1 to F2 infinity. F1 to ground 13.5 Meg ohms, F2 to ground infinity. Q1 to Q2 3.9 ohms. The genny is still in the camper. One last thing I took the fuel line off and primed the pump and had fuel flow. I am planning on dropping it out and give it a good cleaning. Sorry for the long post just wanted you to have all the facts.

Thanks,
Brett

F1 / F2 are the wires to rotor brushes. Sounds like you have an open somewhere. Clean the slip rings, Check that brushes aren't hung up or worn. Think on this one that means taking it apart to get at them. Check for bad wire connections too, you might get lucky and not have to take it apart.

Resistance between F1-F2 should be 21.8 ohms +-10%, that's the resistance of rotor.

Think this may be the gen that has a rotor winding lead to slip ring crimp that loosens up, can be soldered.

While you have it apart clean slip rings, on Onan NHE types that can kill AC reg. But I think reg on yours is tougher, haven't heard reports of that killing it.

Eric Wood- I down loaded a service manual and a parts manual. I got them from this forum. Thanks for asking.

len k- I read that the resistance should be around 20 ohms. I was thinking bad brush. I wanted someone else to look at my troubleshooting results just to make sure before I take the generator out of the motor home. Thanks for looking.

Rotor = 21.8 ohms +-10%
From service manual 981-0530C page 7-8 (pfd page 34)

Haven't worked on it but think you have to pull gen apart to get at brushes. Looks like they are behind the flywheel. Can look for an inspection door, but I suspect there's none.

I finally got time to work on the generator. I dropped it out of the MH, that thing sure is heavy. I have all the covers off and was able to see the slip rings. One of them looks like the brush was arching. I gently scrapped it a little to see if it will clean up and it looks like it will. I ohmed out the slip rings and they read 22.1 ohms, which is good. I am going to get a puller to get the flywheel off and check the brushes. I plan on installing a new set since I have it apart.

22.1 ohms sounds good.

Sounds like you run it frequently. Do you?

Actually I don't run it enough. I got the brushes out and one of them is worn out. It is half the size of the other one. Would too much spring tension cause this or could it be a softer brush. It is worn so much that it couldn't go any farther because the lead wasn't long enough. I will try to upload some pictures later. I took the front of the generator off to get to the slip rings. I buffed them with some scotch brite and they cleaned up very well.

Could you feel any difference in the spring pressure while pushing on the brushes .
