Default IHC Model M Understrike Timing

Mccormick Deering 1 1/2 hp very early, L mag and ignitor, understrike. I need to time the engine. Since there is no cover (with timing marks) on the eccentric cam, how do I time the mag? Thanks for any help.

If I remember right there is a small line stamped into the end of the mag housing and on the shaft. These line up when the mag poles align with the magnets (in the middle of where itís hardest to turn, highest magnetic flux).

The ignitor should trip at this point.

There will be a slash on the mag armature that aligns with a matching mark on the mag case. If you do not get the good spark, try turning the mag 180 degrees and re-try. Sometimes the marks were just slightly off. The ignitor MUST trip exactly when the marks on the mag align. This should be about 20 degrees before Top center Compression. You have to be sure the mag magnet is fully charged if the magnet is weak, you won't get fire.
