Default Vintage Onan Sales Literature

Stumbled upon a 2 inch thick binder of Onan sales specifications/brochures today. All in near mint condition and starting with the 1KW AJ and going up to the 600KW DFX. The sales manual is dated 9-75. More to come as I have time. Please no specific requests. I'm starting at the front and working my way to the back.

Note: You may need to click on the image 2-3 times to get the largest picture and be able to read the fine print depending on the browser you are using.

Hey Billy:

I also have some of these. I wonder if he has the Onan brochure I sent you and Ted?

Default Onan W2 and W3 Models

Hi guys, just thought I'd post this 1938 ad which, I believe to be the inaugural year for production. The W3 is just one of approx. several hundred variations of the W2 series. The engine remains virtually the same but the generator output and starting voltage varies, as does the control types.

I might as well ad these for any of you that may be interested in Onan history. This 1937 Montgomery Ward ad shows an earlier 2 cyl. water cooled model, which I'm quite certain is an Onan. The generator on the 4 cyl. shown here looks more like a Kohler offering.

And, this 1933 Montgomery Ward ad shows what I believe is the grand daddy and first two cylinder Onan made. I know this one is an Onan offering because I have one as does my buddy Bill. Ther are several variations in the front end castings of this genset, I know of three.

Anybody have any info on a 35 EB (or maybe it's FB) gasoline powered unit from the late fifties or early sixties? Thanks

Default Re: Vintage Onan Sales Literature

I just want to include below a copy of the gold bordered Onan original specification for the Series JB 7500 Watts Air-Cooled electric Generating Plants that I received back in 1969 from the Onan corporation.

What is particularly note worth is the way the rating table was constructed in that it specified two columns, namely CONTINUOUS SERVICE and STANDBY SERVICE.

What this implies is that these JB magneciter equipped plants were designed as a PRIMARY power source as well as obviously a standby power source. I can attest to this since my JB ran for 12 consecutive days and only was down 1/2 quart of oil.

Onan dropped these ratings in lieu of one column headed UTILITY RATING.

Furthermore, on the backside of the spec sheet it is particularly note worthy that the exciter nominal capacity was listed as 400 watts @ 40 volts with a capacity of 1400 watts during transient periods. I can attest to this transient performance since my JB will start our A/C compressor which has a LRA of 88 amperes.

Furthermore, the magneciter voltage regulation is +/- 3% without any electronics but merely magnetic amplifiers.
