...or just leave it as-is.

I suspect that there's just not much interest in electronic ignition mods. Unfortunately.

Maybe not much current interest. It's just that in retrospect this thread could become a concentrated source of good general ignition info, to design cheap reliable ignitions for any engine, using commonly available parts.

Link to separate EMP thread would be like a footnote to additional info. As I now see it EMP is nice info, but not practical for protecting our gens from a nuke EMP. Interesting though in that it talks about DC like E3 component, that likely is similar to solar flare induced DC effect in long distance power lines. Learned a lot from reading web on EMP..

Solar flare and slow component of EMP do similar things, but solar flare can cover a larger area. Solar flare stuff is interesting too, because the timing and “polarity” of the stuff the sun blasts at us both affect how severe the effects will be. One polarity mostly bounces off the planets magnetic field, the other works with it (sort of), and is much worse. Coronal mass ejections can be really bad for satellites too. Space weather is a whole new thing. Nifty stuff.

Some of the protection needed for one also works for the other, but a solar flare doesn’t have the fast rise component of an NEMP event. Basically a solar flare is more of a problem for very large electrical things like power grids, but not much of a problem for electronics. An NEMP event is bad for both, but probably worse for electronics than for big things like power grids in many ways.
