Default Model 38 Wincharger

I picked up this Wincharger last October, and just got around to finishing it. The only work it needed to make it operational again were the commutator to be cleaned and the brushes unstuck.

The biggest challenge was reproducing the lettering on the tail. I was able to sand away the layers of paint until I could see the original lettering well enough to trace it.

Default Model 38 Wincharger

After some painters tape, a razor blade, and a rattle can this is how it turned out.

In the 1930's if you didn't have power company electric to your house you could buy a 6 volt Zenith radio. Zenith would then offer a special price of $17.50 to buy the wincharger to charge your 6 volt battery. Ron

Chris,

It turned out great. I would like to find one of these to restore also. It would make a great demonstration model for our local HAM radio club for emergency power examples.
If you know of another unit like this please contact me.
