Question S. Vessot & Company Grinder

hi all,

we just picked up s. vessot and company corn grinder that was made in joliette quebec today. On the tag it says :

Manufactured By:
S. Vessot Company Limited
Joliette Que. Can.
Size: 10 1/2 No. 280540

On the frame it says.
S . Vessot & Company
Joliette Que.

Model Cat No.
1927 818

here are some casting numbers off the grinder and their location.

10 1/2 No. 803 is on the back of the casting around the plates.
10 1/2 C or O or D 167 is on the front of the casting around the plates.
C or D or O fluer de lis - 10 1/2 A17 fleur de lis is on the piece where the corn goes in (feed chute?)

O or D or B 9 1902 is on the hopper bracket casting.
M 23 is on the elevator bearing plate.

i am looking for a manual of any sort for this grinder. also i am looking for a shaker or a shaker to use as a pattern as mine is rotted away. also what kind of wood was used on these units as i need to redo the wood work. also i would like if possible to see pictures if some similar units to see how thwy go together.

any information is gratefully appreciated.

thank you very much,
Jordan

I have one picture of one from an ebay auction a while back. About all I know about them other than they were a small steel plate grinder was that they were briefly sold by IHC for a few years. I'd love to have one, personally.

Here is the picture I had saved from the ebay auction. Not sure if it will help or not but here it is anyways. Enjoy! Also, if you need any help setting up and running these grinders, please let me know. I have run several different makes and models of grinders from the steel burr mills to the 4 1/2' diameter stone mills both water and wind powered. Always willing to share the little bit of knowledge that I have picked up over the years.

Jordan - I have a vessot grinder I've had for years that I take to shows to grind corn. I also have an original sales broshure. I guess you didn't see it when you were at my place. Come and have a look sometime if you want. I will probably take it to the Tillsonburg show the weekend of july 21. Larry.

Jordan,

There's a Vessot grinder at the Reynolds Museum in Wetaskiwan, AB. I don't know if they have any literature or manuals but you could likely contact them via the internet.

Jordan - I checked my grinder and it is a 6-1/2 plain Bearing grinder. Later grinders had ball bearings. I have a big sales brochure which shows pictures and gives info on all these various grinders. Larry.

Hey Larry;

Is there any way you could photocopy that brochure and mail me a copy? I'd love to have one and i'd be more than willing to reimburse you for the postage and supplies. I have a small collection of manuals for different brands of feed grinders and someday i'd love to have a Vessot grinder. Thanks.

Jeb

Jeb - This brochure is big. 18 X 24 inches with both sides printed in color. I would have to make it in a lot of pieces and it would look pretty horrible. What needs to be done is take it to a place that could photo copy it full size. I have no idea what that would cost and the town near where I live has no facility to do it. I would have to take it to a city to have it done probably. I can try and make some enquiries or perhaps someone on the stak would know this kind of information. Larry.

Jordan - the chart says 10 - 20 HP for a 10-1/2 inch grinder. However if you are just grinding a little corn at a show I'm sure a 6 HP engine would run it. If you just trickle the corn in you could probably get by with 4 HP easy. I run my 6-1/2 inch with a 4 HP Desjardins engine. The chart says for a 6-1/2 use 3-6 HP. When you get into a big mill like you have, normally they would be driven by a tractor. Vessot made 8 sizes. They are 6-1/2, 8, 9, 9-1/4, 10-1/2,11, 13, & 15. The 15 inch mill calls for 30-65 HP. Larry.

Maurice - I will try and find out what it would cost. I'm going to be away all next week for work, but I'll keep you in mind. I would like a copy myself because the original folds all up into a size that can be mailed so there are lots of folds and it is getting thin at the fold lines. Larry.

Jordan - Do you mean the wood for the shaker? I can't tell if mine is original. It is made of pine but it might not be original. Larry.
