Got an acetylene torch? If so, rig it somehow (C clamp it, wire it, etc) to heat the hot tube and it will run. The purpose of the chimney is to maximize the heat, cover the flame, etc. It will work without the chimney, it will just take more heat to keep it red than if the the chimney were present.

You can make a chimney with some pipe and get a needle jet at the hardware store and mount in the side of it at the bottom. you'll have to drill a series of holes around the bottom of the pipe to allow air in though.

Do you know anyone that has a gasoline blowtorch you could borrow? That would make a really neat setup!
If you would like to borrow my setup for the weekend I could get it to you tomorrow via ups. Just put a propane bottle on it and you are ready to go. Call me 979 451-0940 if you are interested. I will be going through there in a couple of weeks to pick up some engines so I could pick it up then.

For the long term, John Burns has tubes and burners, as well as torches for the Reids. Look him up on the sponsor page
