Default 1/3 Scale IHC Famous

Hello,

I am Toby from Germany.
Please excuse my scool english.

My father and I want to build a 1/3 Scale IHC Famous.
In Nederlands we found Plans in the "OnderStoom" magazine.

Here are some Drawings of the Engine and the Cart.
My Father "build" the 3D Engine according to the Drawings and I had build the Cart by looking for pictures in this Forum.

This is the first part I have build.

This is the prototype of the Engine, build by Johan van Zanten.

Now I have some questions.

Why does this 2HP Famous had an adjustment lever on the left?
Is it for the magneto? I want to found some Infos about it.
I never found original pictures with it.

Would you help me?

Regards Toby

I made the 1/5th scale model of this a few years ago but it did not have that lever but could be for priming the fuel system as teh one I did you moved the end of the horizontal arm up and down to pump fuel upto teh carb before starting. Build thread

There are some good details of the Victor and Famous engines in these two booklets.

http://www.archive.org/stream/ihcvic...ge/18/mode/2up

http://www.archive.org/stream/intern...ge/32/mode/2up

I am in contact with Jan as I have been giving him some details for the Allman engine he is building at the moment so will let him know about this thread and hopefully he will be able to help.

Also I recently made some cart wheels like you have shown, this is the thread if my methods are of help

Hi Toby,

I am the builder of the model on the photograph. My engine differs a little from the " standard" engine because it was build exclusively for the Osborne dealers. Besides the blue colour the main difference is the ignition system. They used an American Bosch magneto i.s.o. the more usual Webster magneto wich was placed near the ignitor on the cylinder head. The magneto snaps off by the motion of the big bend lever wich has an exentric on the camshaft gear. The other end of the big lever is suported by a short swing arm. The handle you refers to has a small exentric bearing lifting the swing arm a little up or down. This causis the snap action of the magneto, early or late ignition timing.
I hope I have made myself clear because I have the same problem as you; English is not my first language. Do you read Dutch? That would be easyer to me.
If there are questions left, do't hasitate to ask me.
I wish you succes with your hobby.

Best regards,
Johan van Zanten, jenj.vanzanten@casema.nl

@JasonB,
Hello, thank you for reply. I think, Johan van Zanten now is my first adress.

@Johanvanzanten
Hello and thank you. I had also kontact to Henk, we meet him this year at Loon Van Zand.
There we bougth the OnderStoom Special with the Plans.
If there are more questions, you and Henk are our adresses.
Johan, do you think it's able to get the Magneto to run?

Now I found a video of a 6 HP Famous with this Magneto.
There I can see it in action and understand it a little more.

Google my Friend
"Hallo en dank u. Ik had ook contact met Henk, ontmoetten we ons dit jaar in Loon Van Zand.
Er kochten we de OnderStoom special met de plannen.
Als er vragen zijn, en Henk zijn onze adressen.
Johan, denk je dat het mogelijk is om het model om de magnetosfeer lopen te brengen?"

Nu heb ik een video van een 6 HP Famous met deze magnetometer gevonden.
Er kan ik in actie te zien en te begrijpen een beetje meer.

Here's a couple pictures of my Famous vertical. This was my prototype when i was selling the casting kits for this model. I let this one go when i sold the business. I still have a complete casting kit, so maybe i well get around to building another one of these days. You well notice in the pictures, that i am using a spark plug. I found
it ran better on the plug, but i also build the igniter, and it is stored in the battery box.

Hallo James,

nice model and nicer Typeplate and decals.
Do you have bigger picture of it or where can find your shop?
But your Modell is in 1/5 scale, right?

TOBY
Yes my Famous Vertical is 1/5 scale. Here are a few pictures of mine while i was
assembling the model after painting. I used to include a bunch of pictures, so the builder knew where all the parts went.
Hope this helps.

Hello,

today I used the time to play a little bit with the 1/3 IHC.

I add another Fuel tank, like the IHC Pump version.
Then I played a little bit with gears and so on.

Look at yourself.

I never know, if I ever will build this, but I like to design it.
Now I am looking for waterpump drawings.

Regards Toby

Hello,
Meanwhile, the IHC engines are almost completed.
There are still a few small things missing.

Greeting Toby
