Default 1/2 size KC Lightning tractor

back in the '90's i had built a 1/4 Kansas City Hay Press Lightning Engine
by measuring the full size engine that Morris Blomgren had.

in my research of those engines i kept seeing ads for a KC tractor.
Morris' engine is on a taller cart that looks a lot like the tractor frame.
about 2 years ago i started drawing, making patterns and building a 1/2 size.

yesterday it came to life!

https://youtu.be/KnwSCngzWr0

i still have some work to do on the friction drive.

Marv, so glad you've almost got my tractor done...........

Beautiful work, as always.

How close are the dimensions on your engine to my 6 HP? Probably a bit closer to the 4 HP parts engine I have? I've thought building a tractor out of the big KC Lightning would be a fun project (I've always said its a 12 HP but since there is no HP stamped on it, I'm not sure). But, it would take a LOT of work to build the frame, wheels, gearing, clutch mechanism, etc, etc. I've got too many other projects to try to tackle something like that!

I've shared this before in a couple other threads, but it kind of fits here too.

From a 1908 KC Haypress Brochure that showed up on eBay several years ago.

Very nice, I hope you are going to keep that patina as it looks the part rather than a bright fresh paint job.

Any chance you could get some more pics of the gearing and how the clutch works?
