Default Myrick 4 hp Hot Tube

I have this engine I'm restoring. I would like to know what color they were painted from the factory in 1946. It was made in NY. Someone had painted it a sh#&ty blue before me so I'm having to remove all that paint to bare steel and iron.

Thank you,

Jim

Thanks David.

I have a Myrick as well and mine looks like the engine was gray with red flywheels. Not much paint is left to tell for sure. I've seen these engines painted several different ways...Gray with red flywheels, all green, all blue, blue with red flywheels. I am not sure if Myrick had different color schemes over the years or if they painted to the customers request.

Good luck with your project and I'd like to see pictures when you have it finished.

Adam

If you have a Myrick engine it was made 1920 or earlier. Luther mfg bought Myrick that year. If it tagged as a Luther, it's after 1920. Myrick engines were painted with a mix of lamp black and linseed oil. You could get them painted anyway you preferred. Most around here are plain black. I've had some with grey flywheel rims. Had a couple red & grey ones too. Depends on the company that bought them.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess it doesn't matter. I'm going with black with red flywheels with black pin stripe on the flywheels and red pinstripe on the engine parts. I'm almost ready to start painting. Will post some pics later.

Thanks,

Jim in Pa
