Default Briggs & Stratton 23 Timing

Hi: Is there a trick to setting the timing on a Briggs 23? I have the manual and have checked and rechecked what it tells me to do. Then I walked away and came back and checked and rechecked everything again. I have not removed the cam and the engine did not have an ignition box so I got one from another engine. Help I need a direction to look.

Hi Nick Did the replacement ignition box come from a 23? If not that's your problem. The boxes look the same but the arms are different lengths where they contact the cam. Jim
