Thumbs up Honesdale, PA Auction, July 12, Steam & Gas Engines of Museum of Mechanical Antiques

Selling at Big Bear Farm on July 12, 2014:

A collection of seldom offered items from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in their natural state.

Gas engines including Domestic side shaft 1.5 HP, IH Tom Thumb air-cooled 1 HP, Witte Headless 5 HP, Cement mixer with rare Wonder make & break, Novo 8 HP powering a huge Fay and Egan band saw (factory outfit), Briggs and Stratton washing machine with engine, 1918 Centaur flat belt drive tractor with Hercules engine, plus more.

Also steam engines, Crosley Farm-to-Road, Vermont Central wooden caboose, 1200 lb. anvil, and much more including water powered, musical & amusement, lighting, blacksmithing, horse-drawn, electrical, railroad, and mining.

The list says they have a Centaur tractor, but I didn't see a picture of it.

Jim, was this the gentleman who used to display some of his engines at the fair in Newfoundland Pa?. Some years back I remember seeing a steam fired tractor he used to operate. Funny you should post this as my mother's family lives in Honesdale. Frank

It says its flat belt drive and has a Hercules engine. I think the tractor pictured is it. I wonder how they think that it is Centaur? Does it have a tag? The Centaur we're thinking about didn't start until 1921 and was never flat belt driven.

Any stakers attending this sale? i think the buyers premium and sales tax will keep some from on the high end of bidding. i really like the crosley but cant find time to make the sale and looks like i might have to pick the veg plot Saturday anyway...dangin peppers and tomatoes..I hope someone can post the final sale results..the steam engines look interesting.good luck to all attending
