Default My 1972 AENLD with water pump

Craigslist pick up today. Came mounted to a cart.
Trying to find out more about this pump. I found a tag that says Peabody-Barnes.
Does anyone know if these pumps have a good or bad reputation? Also, once I get it running does anyone know if it is safe to run this without being hooked up to water?

Excellent pumps made in Mansfield Ohio. We sold them for a while. Highly respectable pump mfg. It's not good to run the engine without some water in the pump body as is's what lubricates the seal. Yours appears to have a check flapper on the intake. This, when it seals off, allows you to fill the pump body with water, and hopefully it will self prime. Otherwise, you'd need a foot valve on the end of the suction hose and fill all with water before pumping.
