Default 1 1/2 gilson engine ignition

my friend has this 1 1/2 gilson engine he needs to know what the correct original
ignition system was and how it worked?
he has got it running using his own made up ignition by a point pickup
on the cam and a battery and trembler buss coil

There should be a second cam lobe on the back side of the gear and thats what makes contact with the finger.
